Our History
Proplan started operations as the part-time consulting practice of Dr Yiannis Fessas, a Chemical and Food Engineer, in 1974 just after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. In the years that followed it became a company (1983) and it has grown to be Cyprus' most respected Engineering Consultancy outside the Building Industry sector. It had to earn its fees by offering independent services while developing its market simultaneously, which was and partially still remains so today, quite undeveloped.
This twin handicap turned out to be a blessing as the delays caused by the slow development of assets, allowed the accumulation of know-how and wisdom which led to the better formulation of the strategy that is now consolidating Proplan into a strong operating position from where it can leap into new ventures and achievements.
Since the late 80's the company's management realized that in order to fulfil its mission it needed to set up all the necessary infrastructure.
Much like the legendary Odysseus (Ulysses), who in order to reach Ithaki had to embark on a very long journey testing endurance, wit, patience and perseverance, Proplan embarked on the long journey towards ultimate fulfillment of what we at Proplan perceive now as our destiny. This was simply to create and operate all that is missing in order to provide our clients with solutions commensurate with their size and circumstances. In other words a modern engineering consultancy geared to the needs of small developing economies.
From a small office in the district town of Paphos in 1974 Proplan now has its own purpose-built premises at the Ergates Industrial Estate south-west of Nicosia . This houses the first Business Innovation Centre in Cyprus and one of the very few such centres worldwide that is privately funded and self sustaining.
The company's future is now identified with this unique concept which treats Proplan as an equal partner with all the other stakeholders in the Centre and is envisaged to become a model for regional development.
